Aga

Aga is a town in the Higashikanbara district of northeastern Niigata Prefecture. Two rivers, the Agano and Tokonami, flow through rolling farmland dotted with rural villages and rice paddies that stretch across the landscape.

The town formed on April 1, 2005, when several neighboring municipalities merged to create a larger administrative unit. This consolidation brought together communities with deep roots in farming and local crafts that continue today.

Rice farming defines daily life here, where generations of families tend paddies that produce premium Koshihikari variety used in local sake and traditional meals. You see these fields everywhere, shaping the rhythm of seasons and connecting people to the land.

Two sake breweries welcome visitors for tastings and insights into local production methods. The Aga-no-Sato Roadside Station offers regional products and fresh food, making it easy to experience local flavors while exploring the farming landscape.

The Mikawa district has a mushroom park where visitors can pick their own mushrooms and learn about traditional local cultivation methods. It's a hands-on way to connect with the region's farming heritage and take home what you've gathered.
