Dynaland, Ski resort in Gujo, Japan
Dynaland is a ski resort in the mountains of Gujo, in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It has several slopes of varying difficulty, served by a number of lifts that cover different sections of the mountain.
The resort started as a small winter sports facility and grew steadily over the decades into a destination serving the wider Kansai area. Its development followed the boom in recreational skiing that swept through Japan from the 1970s onward.
Dynaland draws many visitors from the Kansai region, and the crowd on weekends tends to be a mix of young groups and families. The mountain has a social feel, with people gathering at the base area between runs.
The resort can be reached by bus from several major cities in the Kansai region, and there is parking available on site. Weekends draw larger crowds, so arriving early in the day helps make the most of the slopes.
On weekends and public holidays, the lifts open before sunrise, which means skiers can be on the slopes while it is still dark. Watching the light change over the mountain from a moving chairlift is an experience that regular daytime visits cannot offer.
