Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort, Ski resort in Chino, Japan
Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort is a ski area near Chino in Nagano Prefecture, with nine runs and three lifts. The slopes are spread across the mountain and cater to both beginner and intermediate skiers.
The mountain was developed as a winter sports destination over the latter half of the 20th century, as Nagano Prefecture expanded its ski facilities. This growth was part of a broader effort to build winter leisure infrastructure across Japan.
The resort's restaurant serves regional dishes from Nagano Prefecture, including METAUMA Chicken with a house-made sauce and Wasabi Shio Ramen made with Shinshu wasabi. These dishes reflect the local food traditions of the Shinshu region and are popular with skiers and day visitors alike.
The resort is easily reached by car from Chino and the wider Nagano region, with parking available on-site. You can buy a day pass covering all lifts, or get individual tickets if you only plan to use the ropeway or visit for the views.
The south-facing slopes of the resort offer a view toward both the Southern Alps and the Central Alps of Japan on clear days. Seeing two major mountain ranges from a single ski run is something most resorts in the region cannot offer.
