Mishima Skywalk, Suspension pedestrian bridge in Mishima, Japan.
Mishima Skywalk is a suspension footbridge spanning a forested valley in Mishima, Japan. The structure measures 400 meters long and 1.6 meters wide, with transparent floor sections at several points and metal railings for safety.
The architectural firm Chodai completed construction in December 2015, making this the longest pedestrian bridge in Japan. Since then, the structure has served as a viewing point over the valley and surrounding mountains.
The name refers to the city of Mishima and the crossing of the sky space above the forested valley. Visitors use the walkway as a viewing point and pause at the railings to take photographs and look at the mountains on the horizon.
A bus from the south exit of Mishima Station takes about 20 minutes to reach the entrance, and an admission fee is charged at the gate. Windy days can make walking across the bridge more challenging, so sturdy footwear is helpful.
Next to the bridge there are areas for forest adventure activities and zones specifically designed for visitors with dogs. These spaces offer opportunities for recreation and movement beyond the simple crossing.
