Snoul Wildlife Sanctuary

Snoul Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in Kratié Province that stretches between Mondulkiri and Kratié, encompassing evergreen forests, rolling hills, and open grasslands with water pools. The landscape supports diverse habitats for wildlife across a substantial territory.

The area received protected status in 1993 and was later designated as an Important Bird Area. This formal recognition reflected growing understanding of the region's ecological importance for multiple species.

Local communities around the sanctuary maintained traditional practices in resource management until environmental pressures led to changes in land use patterns.

Reaching the sanctuary requires traveling from the town of Snuol in Kratié Province, so visitors should arrange transportation in advance. Getting around the terrain is easier with local guides who know the trails and water sources.

Camera traps documented wild tigers in the region and provided the first photographic proof of this species in Cambodia. These images revealed that large predators still inhabit these forests.
