Mungyeong Saejae, Mountain pass in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea
Mungyeong Saejae is a mountain pass situated at 642 meters between two major peaks, connecting Mungyeong City with Goesan County. The pass runs through a protected area that includes reconstructed historical structures and film studio facilities.
During the Joseon Dynasty, this pass formed part of the Great Yeongnam Road, a major trade route connecting Seoul to southeastern regions. Three defensive gates were positioned along this route to control commerce and communication.
The site contains a large open-air film studio where Korean historical dramas are regularly produced. The reconstructed buildings from the Goryeo Period give visitors a sense of how daily life appeared during that era.
Visitors should note that the site closes during major holidays including New Year's Day, Seollal, and Chuseok for special observances. Parking facilities are available on-site for convenient access to the area.
Water from the eastern side of the pass flows toward the Nakdong River and eventually to the Sea of Japan, while western runoff feeds into the Han River. This geographical feature shows how the pass divides two entirely separate water systems.
