Singapore Zoo, Zoo in North Region, Singapore.
The Singapore Zoo is a zoological garden in the northern part of Singapore, located near the shore of Seletar Reservoir. The grounds stretch across wooded hills and use moats, water features, and low walls to separate the different habitats from one another.
The park was founded in the early 1970s and opened its gates to the public in 1973. Since then, the facility has steadily evolved and is now regarded as a pioneer in the natural design of animal enclosures.
The park has worked for decades on protecting threatened animal species and shows visitors these efforts through information boards along the pathways. Many enclosures are designed so that you can observe animals up close without bars or fences blocking the view.
The park opens daily at half past eight in the morning and closes in the evening, giving you plenty of time to explore the different areas. At the entrance, you receive an overview map that helps you find the pathways to the enclosures you want to see.
In some enclosures, visitors walk on elevated pathways directly through the animals' habitats, allowing unexpected encounters at eye level. Some areas have no visible barriers, so you are separated from the residents only by differences in elevation and planting.
