Upper Peirce Reservoir, body of water
Upper Peirce Reservoir is a water supply reservoir in northwestern Singapore, enclosed by secondary forest on most of its banks. A dam structure at one end serves as a viewpoint and gives access to the walking trails that run along the water's edge.
The reservoir was completed in the 1970s as part of an effort to expand Singapore's water supply network, building on earlier infrastructure in the area. The dam was later raised to increase the volume of water the basin could hold.
The reservoir is a gathering spot for locals who come for morning walks along the water's edge. On weekday mornings, small groups can be seen moving along the paths, making use of the shade before the heat of the day sets in.
The main access point is along Old Upper Thomson Road, where free parking is available close to the dam. Visitors arriving by public transport should expect a walk of around 15 minutes from the nearest bus stop.
A secondary viewpoint located about a kilometer from the dam offers a rarely seen angle over the water that most visitors miss. The spot has no lighting after dark, so the best time to visit is in the early morning when the light is soft and the paths are quiet.
