Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle, street food stall in Singapore
Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is a noodle restaurant in Kallang where fresh noodles are made daily on site. The dining space is small and simply furnished, filled with the characteristic smell of cooking pork and noodles.
The restaurant was founded in 1932 by Mr Tang Joon Teo on Hill Street and is nearly a century old. After several moves, it has been located on Crawford Lane since 2004, run by the family while maintaining its reputation for good food.
The name comes from its original location on Hill Street, where the restaurant started its journey. Today it is a place where people from different backgrounds gather to share a traditional dish prepared by hand using recipes that have passed through generations.
The restaurant opens in the morning and closes in the early evening, except on the first and third Monday of each month. It is best to arrive early or be prepared to wait, especially on weekends, as cash is the only accepted payment method.
The restaurant held its Michelin star from 2016 to 2022, a recognition of its consistent quality over several years. This honor is notable for a simple street restaurant focused on handmade preparation.
