Loft Crag, Mountain summit in Lake District, England
Loft Crag is a mountain summit in the Central Fells at 680 meters high, marked by a small stone cairn at its top. The peak sits among rolling terrain with views toward surrounding mountains and valleys.
The summit became a recognized walking destination in the early 1800s as the Lake District developed into a popular hiking region. Paths to the peak were gradually established and maintained by local communities during this period.
Local hiking communities maintain detailed records of ascents, with 231 registered walkers documenting their experiences across 294 recorded climbs to the summit.
The walk starts from the Stickle Ghyll car park and follows a marked trail with cairns guiding you across varied ground. The route is straightforward to follow, though the terrain changes from grassy slopes to rockier sections.
From the top you can see neighboring peaks such as Bowfell and Grasmoor spread across the surrounding landscape. This viewing position makes it a useful reference point for understanding the layout of the wider fell region.
