New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Veterans memorial and museum in Holmdel, United States.
The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a black granite structure in Holmdel that honors the names of 1,562 service members from New Jersey who died during the Vietnam War. The grounds also include an educational center with exhibits, archives, and learning materials.
This memorial was established in 1998 as the first institution in the United States dedicated exclusively to Vietnam War history. It grew from the community's need to preserve the memory of those from New Jersey who did not return home.
The museum displays letters, photographs, and personal items from New Jersey veterans that document daily experiences during the war. Visitors can read and see stories from people who were directly affected by the conflict.
The grounds are open every day and located at Exit 116 of the Garden State Parkway, making it easy to reach. The museum itself is accessible Tuesday through Saturday for visitors to explore the exhibits.
The memorial was designed by Hien Nguyen, a South Vietnamese refugee whose family was also affected by the war. The structure contains 366 panels, each representing one day of the year, creating a powerful connection between individual loss and collective remembrance.
