Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center, Museu em Nova Jérsia, Estados Unidos
The Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center is a site in Holmdel, New Jersey, featuring exhibits with photographs, letters, and artifacts that tell the conflict from multiple viewpoints. A large circular memorial with polished black granite panels displays the names of 1,556 New Jersey residents who died or remain missing from the war.
The memorial opened in the mid-1990s as local veterans sought to honor their fallen friends and families. The museum then opened in 1998 and became the first facility in the country dedicated entirely to the Vietnam War.
The museum displays personal letters and items from soldiers and families that show how the war touched everyday lives. These objects reveal the experiences of New Jersey residents who lived through the conflict, both those who served and those who stayed home.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM, while the memorial remains accessible 24 hours a day at no cost. The site sits near the Garden State Parkway for easy access, with outdoor walkways and picnic areas for visitors.
The memorial was designed by Hien Nguyen, who escaped from South Vietnam in 1975, bringing his personal experience to the work. The polished black granite panels reflect visitors, creating a connection between those who visit today and the events being remembered.
