White Mountain Central Railroad, Heritage railway in Lincoln, New Hampshire, US

The White Mountain Central Railroad is a narrow-gauge heritage railway in Lincoln that winds about 2.5 miles through mountain forests and crosses the Pemigewasset River on a covered wooden bridge. The train travels past forested landscapes and stops at a family entertainment complex that has served visitors for decades.

The railway was founded in 1958 as part of a family entertainment destination that was established during the 1950s development period. It was created to complement an existing recreational complex and has remained a regional attraction since its opening.

The railway operates two working steam locomotives, including a rare machine from the 1920s that once powered a lumber mill. Visitors can watch these historic engines in action and learn how they served the region's industrial past.

The train ride is short and family-friendly, making it easy to fit into a day trip while enjoying the forest setting. Plan to visit during the warm months from late May through October when the railway operates daily.

During the ride, a character called the Wolfman appears chasing the train in an old vehicle while delivering playful warnings to passengers. This theatrical element is an unexpected touch that adds humor to the journey and has become part of the attraction's tradition.
