The kidnappings of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight refer to a series of crimes that took place on the near west side of Cleveland, Ohio. Ariel Castro held the three women in a plain residential house on Seymour Avenue for more than nine years before they escaped in 2013.
Michelle Knight was taken first in 2002, followed by Amanda Berry in 2003 and Gina DeJesus in 2004, all by Ariel Castro, a former school bus driver. In May 2013, Amanda Berry broke free, which led police to rescue the others and arrest Castro, who died in his prison cell a few months later.
