Haystack Mountain Ski Area, Private ski resort in Wilmington, United States.
Haystack Mountain Ski Area is a ski resort in Wilmington divided into three main terrain sections serving different skill levels. The lower mountain has beginner trails, the upper mountain offers intermediate runs, and The Witches provides advanced terrain.
The area opened on December 18, 1964, equipped with a Mueller double chairlift and three T-bars as its initial lift infrastructure. This foundation helped establish it as a winter sports destination in Vermont.
The original base lodge reflected ambitious plans for an upscale destination, with a wine and cheese shop and cocktail lounge as core amenities. These establishments shaped the character of the place and show what kind of experience was intended from the start.
The Barnstormer six-person detachable lift with protective bubble serves the upper mountain, while the Tage and Stags Leap quad lifts connect different terrain sections. This equipment allows good access across all parts of the mountain.
In March 1968, this resort became one of the first to offer specialized skiing lessons for blind individuals. This early step opened the door for greater inclusion in winter sports.
