Yanoda, Tropical rainforest park in Baoting Li and Miao County, China.
Yanoda is a tropical rainforest park in Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County, on the island of Hainan in southern China. It covers forested hills and is organized into two main areas connected by walking paths, with dense tree cover, waterfalls, and rock formations throughout.
The area was long part of the interior forest of Hainan, used and inhabited by Li communities for generations. It was developed as a visitor destination in the 2000s, and in 2012 it received the highest national scenic designation China awards to natural sites.
The name Yanoda comes from the Li language and refers to the forest as a living place, not just a landscape. Visitors walking through the park may notice signs in Li script alongside Mandarin, reflecting the presence of the indigenous community in this part of Hainan.
Most visitors arrive from Sanya by organized tour or shuttle bus, as the park is hard to reach without a vehicle. Bring sturdy shoes and rain gear since the paths are uneven and the air stays humid throughout the year.
Part of the forest contains trees said to be over 1,000 years old, still standing and protected from any direct contact. Some of these trees carry small plaques with their local name in the Li language, making them a kind of living record of the area.
