Yangpu Ancient Salt Field

The salt field contains over 1,000 flat stone tanks along the beach, designed for evaporating seawater through a traditional extraction process.

Salt workers from Putian, Fujian Province established this production center in 800 AD, creating a method that uses sea mud and solar evaporation.

The salt production methods at Yangpu represent an essential part of local traditions, with knowledge passed down through generations of families.

The site remains active during summer and autumn months when approximately 30 families continue the traditional salt production techniques.

Each stone tank features specific measurements and a thin rim that captures seawater during high tide, producing salt through natural evaporation.
