Dongpo Academy, Educational academy in Zhonghe, China

Dongpo Academy stands east of Zhonghe town, about 40 km from Danzhou, on the site of Su Dongpo's exile residence. Its buildings include the Zaijiutang, where Su lived and lectured, the Zaijiuting pavilion, side rooms, corridors and the Aotang niche. Rebuilt in 1982 after Cultural Revolution destruction, it now serves as an exhibition hall.

The academy was founded in the late 11th century and is linked to Su Dongpo, an important poet and scholar who lived here during that time. The building Zaijiutang, which served as the core residential structure, dates from this founding period.

The academy takes its name from Su Dongpo, the Song-dynasty writer exiled to Hainan, and the Zaijiutang hall is where he lived and lectured. The site is now a museum with displays on the poet; the name Zaijiutang means "Hall of Bringing Wine", recalling the gatherings held alongside study.

The site is easiest to reach from Danzhou, with bus services being the main way to get there. The best time to visit is during the drier months when the paths are easy to walk and the structures are clear to see.

The name Zaijiutang translates literally to Hall of Wine and reflects that this place was meant not only for serious study but also for social gathering. This naming reveals a different side of scholarly life that visitors often overlook.
