Fylde

Fylde is an administrative borough in Lancashire on England's northwestern coast. The area stretches between the Ribble estuary and Morecambe Bay, combining sandy beaches with farmland that extends inland.

The borough was created in 1974 by merging three separate administration areas: Fylde Rural District, Kirkham Urban District, and Lytham St Annes Municipal Borough. This combination brought together coastal, urban, and countryside communities under one local authority.

The name Fylde derives from Old Norse, referring to the flat land that defines the region. Visitors can see Victorian seaside architecture and traditional promenades in places like Lytham and St Annes, which reflect the character of a classic English coastal resort culture.

The administrative center is based in St Annes, where local government information can be accessed. The borough is served by several towns including Lytham, Kirkham, and Warton, which are connected by local roads.

Warton continues to host an active aerospace industry that has manufactured aviation and space components for decades. Salwick is home to Britain's only nuclear fuel element manufacturing plant.
