St Peter's Church, Martindale, Grade II listed church in Martindale, England
St Peter's Church sits at the top of Martindale Hause, built with stone from the surrounding fells in an Early English architectural style. The structure has straightforward stone walls that blend with the natural landscape of the valley.
Construction of the church began in 1880 with financial support from local residents Anthony Parkin of Sharrow Bay and W.H. Parkin of Ravencragg. Community backing from these prominent families made the completion of the building possible.
The church contains fifteen stained glass windows created by artist Jane Gray in 1975, including a memorial dedicated to the crew of the HMS Glorious naval ship. The windows show how the place connects to local heritage and memory.
The church holds regular services on the first Sunday of each month from March to December, with additional services running between April and October. It is worth checking ahead for current service times, as they vary with the seasons.
Located about half a mile from St Martin's Church, this newer building features a dried-up pond in the lower churchyard. The pond is a quiet reminder of the streams that once fed water through the valley.
