Ontonagon School, Historic school building in Ontonagon, Michigan.

The Ontonagon School at 301 Greenland Road comprises three connected structures constructed in 1912, 1938, and 1967, displaying different architectural periods.

The original 1912 building underwent reconstruction after a fire in 1929, followed by a two-story elementary addition in 1938 designed by architect A.B. Nelson.

The 1938 elementary wing incorporates decorative elements including stained glass art, fairy tale character tiles, and an Art Deco fish pond in the kindergarten room.

The facility operated continuously until 2010 when the school district consolidated all grades into a different building, leading to its sale to private ownership.

The kindergarten section features built-in child-sized benches, reversible blackboards, and tiled corridors illustrating scenes from children's literature.
