SeaWorld Ohio, Marine theme park in Aurora, United States
SeaWorld Ohio was a marine animal park spanning roughly 25 acres in Aurora, located in northern Ohio. The facility included several exhibition pools for dolphins and sea lions, aquariums, and covered amphitheaters for daily animal performances.
The park opened in May 1970 as the second location in the SeaWorld chain after San Diego, bringing large marine mammals to a landlocked region of the United States for the first time. After operating for more than three decades, the facility permanently closed its gates in 2001.
The park combined entertainment with marine education through daily shows featuring dolphins, sea lions, and other marine mammals for Midwestern audiences.
The grounds operated only from mid-May to mid-September due to cold winter months in the Midwest and welcomed guests typically between 10 in the morning and 5 in the evening. Shows ran multiple times daily on a fixed schedule available at the entrance each morning.
Operators trucked seawater for the pools more than a thousand kilometers inland from the Atlantic coast. Some of the dolphins and seals relocated to other SeaWorld locations on the coast after closure.
