Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery, Military cemetery in North Hanover Township, United States.
Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery is a military burial ground spanning 225 acres with a chapel and administrative offices positioned on elevated terrain. From this high point, the entire grounds with their distinct sections for burials and cremated remains can be seen.
Governor Thomas H. Kean opened this facility in 1986 as the first state-operated cemetery for veterans in New Jersey. The naming after Brigadier General William C. Doyle honors his military service and legacy.
The chapel here holds stained glass windows depicting military service branches and honoring four military chaplains who perished in World War II. Visitors encounter these windows as soon as they enter, creating a sense of remembrance and spiritual reflection.
The administrative office is open weekdays from 8 AM to 3 PM, while the grounds themselves stay open until dusk. Visitors should allow time to explore the various sections and wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is expansive.
The grounds contain special sections for cremated remains as well as memorial areas dedicated to veterans whose remains were never recovered from military operations. These spaces allow families to honor fallen service members even when physical remains are not available.
