Parliament House, Parliament building in New Delhi, India.
Parliament House is a triangular structure covering 65,000 square meters in New Delhi, marked by hexagonal design patterns and three ceremonial gates called Gyan, Shakti, and Karma Dwar. The facade combines modern materials with geometric motifs, while the interior chambers surround a central courtyard space.
Inaugurated on May 28, 2023, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the building replaced the previous legislative structure that had served since 1927. The transition marked a new phase in India's parliamentary infrastructure after almost a century of continuous use.
Inside, handcrafted woodcarvings and murals display artistic traditions from each Indian state, reflecting the country's regional diversity. Visitors can observe local craftsmanship in the galleries through wall reliefs and decorative panels arranged throughout the halls.
Visitors can enter the premises only with prior authorization, and security screening is mandatory at entry points. The surrounding areas remain visible from outside during daylight, particularly along the main roads when the gates are open.
The central foyer holds India's largest Foucault pendulum, suspended from the ceiling to demonstrate Earth's rotation through its slow motion above the floor. Visitors see the pendulum functioning as a working scientific instrument rather than mere decoration.
