Old Parliament House

Old Parliament House is a neoclassical building with a circular layout in New Delhi that now serves as a museum. Colonnades surround the central structure, while four gates mark access to different areas of the complex.

The building opened in the late 1920s and served for decades as the seat of the Indian legislature. After the move to a more modern complex, it was converted into a memorial site.

The name of this place marks the beginning of parliamentary work on the Indian subcontinent and recalls early debates after independence. Visitors today see rooms with high ceilings and wood paneling that reflect the seriousness of legislative sessions.

The former parliament building sits centrally in the government district and is easily reached on foot. Visitors wishing to enter the interior spaces should check in advance for possible security screenings.

Inside the building sits an old library with books on the Indian constitution and early legislative drafts that is rarely noticed from outside. Some wall panels still display handwritten voting results from the first years after independence.
