Datong Prince's Palace, Royal palace complex in Datong, China
The Prince's Palace features three main halls along its central axis, with more than 20 palaces and 800 rooms spread across 190,000 square meters.
Built in 1392 during the Ming Dynasty, this residence belonged to Prince Zhu Gui, the thirteenth son of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, who ruled from this palace.
The palace layout mirrors the Nanjing Imperial Palace design, incorporating traditional Chinese architectural elements with formal reception halls and private living quarters.
The central axis buildings reopened to visitors in July 2023 after extensive reconstruction work, while the side sections remain under development.
The Nine Dragon Screen stands as the sole original structure that survived the 1644 fire when peasant rebels captured the last Prince of Dai.
