Milona waterfall, Natural waterfall in Ierapetra Municipality, Greece.
Milona waterfall is a natural cascade in the Milona Gorge near Agios Ioannis village, where water drops approximately 40 meters into a clear pool. Pine forests frame both sides of the gorge, creating a wooded setting around the falls.
An old water channel once carried water from the gorge to the village of Koutsounari, showing how residents historically used the area's natural resources. This infrastructure reflects longstanding connections between the waterfall and surrounding communities.
The waterfall serves as a gathering place for locals who enjoy hiking and exploring the gorge throughout the year. It holds meaning for the community as a connection to the natural landscape surrounding their villages.
Visitors can access the site through two different trails starting from Kakia Skala beach, with the easier pine forest route taking around 20 minutes to complete. Both paths are walkable but require basic fitness and sturdy footwear for the terrain.
During winter months when rainfall increases, a secondary cascade appears beside the main waterfall, creating a double water feature. This seasonal phenomenon occurs at higher elevation and is only visible during specific times of the year.
