Cenote Cristalino, Natural sinkhole in Solidaridad, Mexico

Cenote Cristalino is a natural sinkhole with both open-air swimming zones and partially submerged cave sections filled with freshwater. The water remains cool and clear throughout the year, revealing underwater rock features that extend into shadowed cavern areas.

The limestone bedrock beneath the Yucatan Peninsula dissolved gradually through underground water systems over thousands of years, creating this sinkhole and its cave network. The formation process continues today as water shapes the rock formations within and below the surface.

The ancient Maya people considered cenotes as sacred portals to the underworld, using these natural water formations for ceremonial offerings and water collection.

The water stays cool year-round, making swimming comfortable even on hot days. Bring swimwear, a towel, and drinking water, as the site is straightforward to navigate and explore at your own pace.

A designated cliff jumping area lets visitors leap into the deep water for an adrenaline rush. This section attracts those seeking a thrilling moment during their visit to the cenote.
