Praia do Sancho

Praia do Sancho is a sandy cove nestled between tall cliffs on Fernando de Noronha, featuring clear turquoise water and a sheltered shoreline. The water depth allows for good visibility when swimming and diving.

This beach became part of a protected marine area in 1988 to safeguard ocean ecosystems and control visitor impact. The island itself served as a penal colony for centuries before transforming into a conservation area.

Sea turtles come ashore here to lay eggs, making the beach a vital breeding ground that locals and visitors respect as a sacred natural space. This nesting activity shapes how people interact with and value the place today.

Visitors must descend fixed metal ladders anchored to the cliff face to reach the beach, requiring careful footing and attention. It is necessary to obtain permission from the national park before visiting.

Spinner dolphins gather near the shore during early morning hours to feed and interact with each other in their natural way. These marine mammals visit regularly, creating special moments for those who arrive early.
