Old Town Budva

Old Town Budva is a stone fortification built on a rocky peninsula, protected by defensive walls, towers, and gates that enclose residential quarters and historic buildings. Inside you'll find a museum with archaeological discoveries, local restaurants, and a viewing platform overlooking the Adriatic Sea.

The fortress walls began in the 9th century and were reconstructed by Venetians following a destructive 17th-century earthquake that damaged the original defenses. These repairs shaped the structure that survives today.

Four churches stand within the walls, reflecting different religious traditions that shaped this place over centuries. They remain active spaces where visitors can observe how faith has been expressed and lived here across generations.

The site is easily reached on foot and the narrow streets are manageable to navigate, though some paths are steep. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially during warm weather.

The fortress walls contain Roman artifacts and remnants of a Greek necropolis discovered during excavations on the peninsula. These finds reveal layers of settlement spanning thousands of years.
