The Waterfalls Canyon

This mountain trail winds through a narrow canyon featuring 46 waterfalls of varying sizes, including the 68-meter tall Orpheus waterfall, with wooden bridges and ladders crossing the Elenska River through dense Rhodope Mountain forests.

The canyon has been carved over centuries by natural erosion processes, while the surrounding Soskovcheto Reserve protects ancient spruce trees that are 250-300 years old, serving as living witnesses to the region's geological and ecological history.

Local Bulgarian folklore tells of ancient water spirits inhabiting these waterfalls, and the area reflects traditional mountain culture with nearby villages showcasing authentic Bulgarian architecture and customs passed down through generations.

The trail is accessible daily from 09:00 to 18:00, requires moderate hiking experience with proper footwear due to slippery rocks, and takes approximately four hours to complete the 6-kilometer marked section of the total 10-kilometer circuit.

The eco-trail passes through the buffer zone of a protected reserve containing century-old spruces, offering visitors the chance to observe wildlife including squirrels, otters, red deer, and wild goats in their natural habitat.
