Church of Saint Vissarion of Smolyan

The Church of Saint Vissarion features a central dome of 17 meters in diameter and a bell tower reaching 32 meters in height.

Inaugurated on July 2, 2006, this cathedral marks the first Orthodox church constructed in the Rhodopes region after 130 years of absence.

The cathedral complex maintains educational facilities, including a Sunday school and a synodical library dedicated to Orthodox teachings and traditions.

The main hall accommodates 500 worshippers, while the building contains eleven bells weighing a total of five tons cast at the Russian ZIL plant.

The cathedral's copper-clad domes and modern architectural design make it the third largest religious structure in Bulgaria after Sofia and Vidin cathedrals.
