Church of Saint Vissarion of Smolyan

The Church of Saint Vissarion is an Orthodox cathedral in Smolyan with a large central dome and a tall bell tower. The building can hold around 500 worshippers and contains eleven bells that were cast in Russia.

This cathedral was completed in 2006 and was the first Orthodox church built in the Rhodope region after more than 130 years. The building marks the return of Orthodox worship to this mountainous area following a long absence.
