Village Roadshow Studios
Village Roadshow Studios is a production facility in Oxenford on the Gold Coast equipped with nine large sound stages and comprehensive facilities for filming movies and television shows. The complex includes water tanks for filming water effects, construction workshops for building sets, costume departments, and editing areas that enable full-scale film production.
The site originated in 1986 as a film studio built by producer Dino De Laurentiis and was acquired by Village Roadshow in 1988. Operations began in 1991 just before the nearby Warner Bros. Movie World opened, and the facility has since hosted major international productions including Thor: Ragnarok and Aquaman.
The studios function as a working production hub where crews develop a strong sense of teamwork and rhythm throughout each day. Staff and creatives from Australia and abroad gather here, making it a place where different filmmaking styles and storytelling traditions come together.
Access is limited to production teams only, as this is an active working facility not open to the public. The location offers convenient access from the city and sits near other entertainment venues on the Gold Coast.
One of the water tanks here is Australia's largest facility specifically built for film and television production. During the 2018 Commonwealth Games, parts of the complex were briefly converted into sports venues for boxing and table tennis with temporary seating.
