Arkham Asylum – Shock Therapy, Steel roller coaster in Warner Bros Movie World, Gold Coast, Australia
Arkham Asylum – Shock Therapy was a steel coaster at Warner Bros Movie World in Gold Coast, Queensland. The ride carried passengers in hanging seats through five inversions along a 765-meter track.
The attraction opened in December 1995 under the name Lethal Weapon The Ride and received a Batman-themed redesign in 2012. Operations ended in December 2019 when the coaster closed permanently.
The waiting area displayed wall markings and references to the Joker that created the feeling of an abandoned asylum from the comics. Visitors walked past objects and traces left by Gotham villains that completed the narrative theme.
Riders needed to stand between 140 and 200 centimeters tall to board. The coaster ran two trains with 20 seats each, and all rows faced forward during the circuit.
This installation was the first inverted steel coaster in Australia and offered virtual reality features from September 2014 onward. The technology let riders see additional visual layers during the ride.
