Escape from Madagascar, Steel roller coaster in Dreamworld, Coomera, Australia
Escape from Madagascar is a steel roller coaster at Dreamworld theme park in Coomera, Queensland, designed by the Dutch manufacturer Vekoma. The track follows gentle curves at moderate speed, making it one of the calmer rides in the park.
The coaster opened in 2002 under the name Rugrats Runaway Reptar as part of the park's Nickelodeon Central zone. In 2012 it was renamed and rethemed as Escape from Madagascar when that section of the park became the DreamWorks Experience.
The ride takes its name from the animated film and sits within the DreamWorks Experience section of the park. Characters and themed decorations from the movie line the track, giving younger riders a sense of traveling through a familiar story.
There is a minimum height requirement for this ride, so it is worth checking before joining the queue. Wait times tend to be shorter than at the bigger rides in the park, especially early in the day.
The ride uses a magnetic braking system that slows the train without any physical contact between the brakes and the wheels. This gives the final approach to the station a noticeably smooth feel compared to older braking methods.
