Eureka Mountain Mine Ride, Steel roller coaster in Gold Coast, Australia
The Eureka Mountain Mine Ride was a steel roller coaster at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. It ran through an enclosed artificial mountain structure with tubular tracks, sharp turns, and steep drops, with cars that seated four riders in two rows.
The ride opened in December 1986 as part of Dreamworld's Gold Rush Country area and operated until November 2006. In 1989, the track was replaced by a Brisbane company, which changed the layout from the original design.
The ride was themed around a gold mine, with animatronic figures and vehicles styled after old mine carts used during Australia's gold rush era. Riders moved through dimly lit tunnels past these figures, giving the journey a story-like quality.
The ride took place inside an enclosed structure with very little light, so visitors took a moment to adjust before and after the experience. Anyone sensitive to dark or enclosed spaces would have found this worth considering before boarding.
The track was rebuilt just a few years after opening by HyFab, a local Brisbane company, based on a design that differed from the original by B.A. Schiff & Associates. It is rare for a roller coaster to receive such a thorough track replacement so early in its life.
