Town of Gold Rush, Themed area in Dreamworld, Gold Coast, Australia

Town of Gold Rush is a themed area at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It opened on 11 December 1986 as Gold Rush Country and was renamed on 17 September 2011 to match the backstory of the BuzzSaw roller coaster. The area now contains the Steel Taipan roller coaster, which opened on 15 December 2021, and the Giant Drop on the Dreamworld Tower.

Gold Rush Country opened on 11 December 1986 with the Eureka Mountain Mine Ride and Thunder River Rapids Ride. The mine ride closed in 2006 over safety concerns. In 2011 the area was refurbished and reopened on 17 September as the Town of Gold Rush, matching BuzzSaw's backstory. Thunder River Rapids closed in October 2016 after four riders were killed, and BuzzSaw closed in August 2021.

The area shows how gold discoveries changed people's lives and what kinds of settlements formed when fortune seekers came from different regions. You see in the buildings and streets how people lived and worked during that period.

The area is easy to navigate on foot, with pathways clearly marked between buildings and attractions. Wear comfortable shoes since you will walk a lot, especially if you plan to visit multiple rides and exhibits.

Steel Taipan opened on 15 December 2021, timed to Dreamworld's 40th anniversary. Its 1,200-metre track reaches 104.9 km/h and 39 metres, and its triple-launch system was the first in the Southern Hemisphere. It stands where BuzzSaw, a Maurer Söhne SkyLoop closed in August 2021, once operated.
