The Giant Drop, Drop tower at Dreamworld theme park, Gold Coast, Australia.
The Giant Drop is a drop tower at Dreamworld theme park near Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, standing 119 meters tall with two parallel fall tracks mounted on its exterior. Each track carries a floorless gondola that holds eight riders side by side, releasing them for a freefall descent along the tower.
The ride opened in December 1998 as the tallest drop tower in the world at that time. It held this record until July 2012 and was manufactured by the Swiss company Intamin.
The structure incorporates an oil rig theme, with the facility styled as 'The Giant Oil Company' and decorated with industrial machinery throughout the area.
Riders must be between 120 and 195 centimeters tall and at least ten years old to board. The gondola descends at approximately 135 kilometers per hour (84 miles per hour), and guests should expect a brief but forceful braking moment at the end.
An internal staircase runs through the entire height of the structure, allowing maintenance staff to reach any level on foot. On clear days, the tower can be seen from Coochiemudlo Island roughly 36 kilometers (22 miles) away.
