The farmhouse was built between 1883 and 1884 and soon became a center for arrowroot cultivation and processing. The crop thrived regionally until market shifts and changing agricultural patterns led to the decline of this enterprise.

The farmhouse reflects the working life of rural Queensland families who turned to specialty crops when sugar became less profitable. The simple design shows how the building adapted to serve both home and farm operations.
