Laurel Hill Farmhouse

Laurel Hill Farmhouse is a single-story rural residence constructed with weatherboard walls, broad verandahs, and traditional sash windows. The structure features corrugated iron roofing with a gable design, giving it the practical appearance of a working farm building from that era.

The farmhouse was built between 1883 and 1884 and soon became a center for arrowroot cultivation and processing. The crop thrived regionally until market shifts and changing agricultural patterns led to the decline of this enterprise.

The farmhouse reflects the working life of rural Queensland families who turned to specialty crops when sugar became less profitable. The simple design shows how the building adapted to serve both home and farm operations.

The property sits on rural land accessed by Ruffles Road in a farming area with limited nearby amenities. As it holds heritage status, visitors should check access conditions beforehand to ensure the property is open for viewing.
