Laurel Hill Farmhouse

Laurel Hill Farmhouse features weatherboard construction, verandahs, French doors, sash windows, and a corrugated iron gable roof atop the single-story structure.

Built between 1883 and 1884 by Alexander Fortune for William Doherty, the farmhouse became a center of arrowroot production that supplied most of Australia.

The farmhouse represents Queensland's agricultural evolution from sugar plantations to specialized arrowroot cultivation during the late nineteenth century.

Located at 105 Ruffles Road, the farmhouse received heritage status in 1997, requiring visitors to respect preservation guidelines when exploring the grounds.

The property maintained 40 to 50 acres dedicated to arrowroot production, with its own mill operating continuously until the mid-1930s.
