Steel Taipan, Steel roller coaster at Dreamworld in Coomera, Australia
Steel Taipan is a steel roller coaster at Dreamworld in Coomera, Australia, featuring four inversions along its track. The structure includes three separate acceleration phases that propel riders forward and backward through the circuit.
The attraction opened in December 2021 as a replacement for another ride in this section of the park. Construction took roughly two years and represented a major investment for the site.
Visitors notice the Australian wildlife theme woven through the design, which forms part of the Gold Rush Country setting. Riders experience motion patterns that mirror the movements of a hunting snake as it strikes its prey.
The last car on each train rotates during the ride, offering a different experience from the front seats. Two trains run simultaneously to keep waiting times shorter.
This is the first installation south of the equator to accelerate passengers both forward and backward during the same ride. The system creates moments where riders cannot predict which direction comes next.
