Maggie Daley Park, Urban recreational park in downtown Chicago, United States
Maggie Daley Park is a downtown Chicago park covering 27 acres, built over a multilevel parking structure. The Play Garden spans roughly three acres with climbing structures and slides, while a skating ribbon opens in winter and transforms into a running path for the rest of the year.
The site developed from 2010 onward by transforming a parking lot into a recreational space, named after the former First Lady of Chicago. The park officially opened in 2015, replacing an older park ground that previously occupied the same location.
Several sections carry names that refer to nature themes and community, including a garden for cancer survivors and a woodland play area with tree structures. Families gather on the wave-shaped lawn for picnics and events while children move between themed zones.
Visitors find restrooms, water fountains, and seating scattered across the grounds, with some sections closing in winter. Those coming with children should plan for closed-toe shoes, as climbing walls and moving play equipment require secure footwear.
A 40-foot climbing rock stands at the center of the facility and is staffed by certified personnel who provide equipment. The structure sits directly above the garage roof and uses specially engineered foundations that distribute weight evenly.
