Kenilworth Plantation House

Kenilworth Plantation House is a two-story residence built above ground level in St. Bernard Parish with covered galleries on both levels. Slender wooden posts support these wraparound porches, and multiple French doors open directly onto each gallery.

The house was built around 1820 as one of the few surviving French Creole structures from the early 1800s in this region. It has endured through the parish's major transformations and remains a window into how people lived during that period.

The house displays French Creole design through its hipped roof and decorative wooden elements that visitors can observe when walking around it. These architectural choices reflect how builders at that time adapted European styles to the local Louisiana climate and landscape.

The property sits on Bayou Road in a rural setting surrounded by open land and nearby water. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for humid weather typical of the bayou region.

The property retains nearly all of its original architectural details from the 1800s, particularly the complete wraparound gallery system and the arrangement of French doors. This level of preservation is unusual since most similar plantation homes in the area have been lost or significantly altered.
