Mount Shasta City Park, Urban park in Mount Shasta, California, US.
Mount Shasta City Park is an urban park at the base of Spring Hill in the city of Mount Shasta, in northern California. It features walking trails, shaded picnic areas, playground equipment, open lawns, and several standing structures spread across the grounds.
The site served as a summer teaching campus for California State University from 1920 to 1943, where educators trained during the warmer months. Several buildings from that period are still standing and in use within the park today.
The park sits at the foot of Spring Hill, and the open lawns and shaded areas are regularly used by local families for gatherings and outdoor play. The mix of open space and tree cover gives the grounds a relaxed, everyday feel that locals clearly enjoy year-round.
The park is easy to reach by exiting Interstate 5 at Lake Street and following Mount Shasta Boulevard to the main entrance. Parking is available near the trails and picnic areas, so getting around the grounds on foot is straightforward from the start.
Within the park lies Big Springs, where the Sacramento River begins flowing directly out of volcanic rock beneath Spring Hill. Visitors can stand at the very source of one of California's major rivers without any long hike.
