Mount Shasta City Park, Urban park in Mount Shasta, California, US.
Mount Shasta City Park is a green space at the base of Spring Hill offering trails through the grounds, shaded picnic areas, and playground equipment for families. Multiple buildings and open lawns make it easy to spend time outdoors.
The site served as a summer teaching campus for California State University from 1920 to 1943, where educators trained during the warmer months. Several original structures from that era still stand and function within the grounds today.
The grounds were once central to the daily lives of the Wintun, Okwanuchu, and Maidu peoples who hunted and gathered here for generations before 1841. This indigenous presence remains woven into the land itself.
The park is easily reached by exiting Interstate 5 at Lake Street and following Mount Shasta Boulevard toward the main entrance. Parking is available near the trailheads and picnic areas, making it simple to find a spot.
Within the grounds lies Big Springs, where the Sacramento River begins its journey flowing directly from volcanic rocks beneath Spring Hill. This natural source creates the headwaters of one of California's major rivers.
