Peoples Academy, Public high school in Morristown, United States
Peoples Academy is a two-story red brick school building featuring limestone trim, symmetrical sections, and Corinthian columns at its main entrance. It stands at the eastern end of Main Street on a hilltop overlooking the village of Morrisville to the west.
The school was founded in 1927 when Alexander Hamilton Copley, a successful pharmaceutical businessman, donated the property to the town of Morristown for educational purposes. His donation came following the death of his wife as a tribute to her memory.
The main building houses an astronomical observatory and a wooden community bandshell used for graduation ceremonies and other academic events.
The building sits on a hilltop, so approaching the property involves a slight incline. Its location at the eastern end of Main Street makes it easy to walk to from downtown and explore the surrounding area.
The building facade is divided into five distinct sections, each featuring quoined corners that add depth and visual interest to the structure. An embedded clock positioned above the entrance bay serves both as a timekeeper and as a notable architectural feature adorning the front.
