Little River State Park, State park in Waterbury, Vermont, United States.
Little River State Park is a forest park built around a large reservoir surrounded by wooded hills near Mount Mansfield. The park has camping areas spread throughout, including tent sites, simple shelters, and a few cabins near the water and in the surrounding forest.
The area was settled in the early 1800s before becoming a park, and traces of that past remain visible on the land. Old burial grounds and the stone foundations of mills from that era can still be found along some of the hiking trails.
The park runs nature programs where visitors can learn about local wildlife from staff who lead hikes and teach about birds and animals. These activities help people connect with the forest and understand the ecosystem around the reservoir.
The water is good for swimming and you can rent boats if you want to get out on the reservoir. Come between May and October when the park is fully open and all facilities are available, including restrooms with hot showers.
Some campsites sit on the opposite shore and you can only reach them by boat across the reservoir. This setup creates a truly remote camping experience for those willing to make the boat crossing.
