Colmar Tropicale, French-themed resort in Bukit Tinggi, Malaysia.

Colmar Tropicale is a French-themed resort in the Berjaya Hills, spread across 320,000 square meters of forest and offering different areas for lodging, dining, and activities. The grounds are distributed across several hillsides and include restaurants, rooms inside European-style buildings, and access to outdoor pursuits like zip-lining.

The resort began development in 2000 after Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad encouraged Berjaya Corporation to recreate the French town of Colmar in Malaysia. The project arose from a vision to bring European architecture and culture to a Southeast Asian mountain location.

The buildings copy the style of Alsatian villages like Riquewihr and Turckheim, showing how French architecture was adapted for a Malaysian mountain setting. Walking through the grounds, you see timber-framed facades and European details that recall a small French town.

The grounds sit at about 800 meters elevation in a wooded area, so comfortable footwear is important for walking across the hills. The resort offers free shuttle buses to nearby attractions, making it easy to explore the surrounding area.

The resort offers unusual activities like Japanese tea ceremonies, which contrast with the European architectural themes and reveal how different cultures blend here. This cultural mix makes the place something unexpected between an Alpine backdrop and Asian experiences.
