Lake Arhuaycocha, Glacial lake in Ancash department, Peru.
Lake Arhuaycocha extends over 1,107 meters in length and 400 meters in width at the foot of Pucajirca and Rinrijirca mountains.
The formation of Lake Arhuaycocha results from three decades of melting processes of the Arhuay glacier descending from Pucahirca Sur and Rinrijirca peaks.
The name of the lake incorporates local Andean terminology, with 'cocha' signifying a water body in indigenous languages of Peru.
Reaching Lake Arhuaycocha requires a journey on a gravel road from Caraz to Cashapampay, followed by a seven to ten-hour hiking trail.
The lake basin maintains an average temperature of 3.8°C throughout the year, with annual precipitation reaching 1,250 millimeters.
