Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Tower, Modern office tower in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority Tower is a 40-floor office tower on Corniche Road in central Abu Dhabi. It is made up of two separate wings arranged around a central atrium, offering office space to private tenants.
Work on the tower began in 2001 and was completed in 2006, during a period of rapid urban growth in Abu Dhabi. It was built as the UAE was actively expanding its financial sector and launching large-scale city development projects.
The facade of the tower uses geometric patterns drawn from Islamic design traditions, applied here through glass and steel rather than stone or tile. Walking around the building, you can see how those references shape the look of the exterior.
The tower stands directly on Corniche Road and is easy to reach from the city center on foot or by car. Since it is a private office building, entry is limited to authorized visitors and requires a prior business appointment.
The glass facade contains moving micro-perforated sun-shading panels that automatically follow the sun's position throughout the day, cutting down heat and glare inside. This system runs without any manual input and is visible from outside as a subtle shift in the surface of the glass.
