Al Noor Mosque, Ottoman mosque along Khalid Lagoon, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Al Noor is a mosque overlooking Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah, featuring 34 cascading domes and built from glass fiber reinforced concrete. The interior divides into separate sections to accommodate different prayer groups and provide space for many worshippers at the same time.
The structure was completed in 2005 and commissioned by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed al Qassimi. It represents a modern approach to mosque architecture that blends traditional elements with contemporary building materials.
The name Al Noor means "the light," which reflects in how the structure glows against the waterfront. It stands as a gathering place where the community comes together regularly for prayer and worship.
Visitors can see the mosque on certain weekdays at set times, with guided tours also available by email request. It is advisable to check ahead and wear appropriate clothing, as this is an active place of worship.
The building received recognition from Guinness World Records in 2014 for an unusual record set during Ramadan season. This honor shows how the structure becomes a focal point for the community during special occasions beyond its daily function.
