Dubai Creek Tower, Architectural tower in Dubai Creek Harbour, United Arab Emirates.
Dubai Creek Tower is a tower under construction on the waterfront of Dubai Creek Harbour in Dubai. A slender central core is held by steel cables that spread across the full height like ribs on plant stems.
The groundbreaking took place in October 2016 under the supervision of Dubai's ruler, and the foundations were finished by 2018. Work stopped in early 2020 because of the pandemic and resumed only in March 2024 with a revised design.
The silhouette recalls a minaret, with its narrow shaft crowned by an oval shape at the top. The design plays with the symbolism of the desert lily, whose bud form appears in the upper structure and represents both growth and purity.
The observation decks will be spread across the upper oval section, and some platforms are planned to rotate. Construction is still ongoing, so the tower is not yet open to the public.
The architect Santiago Calatrava designed the steel cable system to mimic the ribbing of lily leaves. These cables anchor the tower to the ground and keep it upright despite its extraordinary height.
